Legendary singer, songwriter and orator John Schumann AO has been announced as the finale speaker at BeefEx 2024.
John Schumann came to prominence as leader of the legendary Australian folk-rock band Redgum, before embarking on a solo career from 1986.
John will take to the stage at 4pm on Thursday October 17 to share what is the back story to his writing of the iconic anthem “I was only 19”.
Talking about the song that made him most famous, John will explore the origins of the song in an address that is both humorous but touching and poignant.
And, in a coup for delegates, he will finish the address with by performing the song.
“Delegates will be treated to John’s humour, his intellect and his remarkable insights in Australian culture. His presentation will give our audience time to reflect and enjoy a change of pace from the demands of the technical aspects of our BeefEx program,” said ALFA’s events chair, Paul Vogt.
“I’m delighted that John will stay on to enjoy the festivities of the Graincorp Farewell Dinner – so our delegates can expect to have the opportunity to meet John and have their moment of Redgum fame’.
Meanwhile, BeefEx 2024 is shaping up to be a record outing with a sell-out trade exhibition and huge interest in ticket sales.
Intending delegates should take advantage of the early bird ticket incentive, which closes Friday 7th October.
