Matt grew up on an Angus property in SE regional NSW, served as the junior member on the NSW Angus Association State Committee and is an accredited judge with the Angus Association of Australia. Matt holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree from The University of Sydney and subsequently practiced in large animal veterinary medicine in Bordertown-Keith and Yankalilla, SA.
Matt attended Colorado State University where he completed a Masters in Intensive Ruminant Nutritional Physiology and, a PhD in Meat Science. During 1994, Matt worked for Mortfort Feedlot Division (3 x 100,000 head feedyards) in special projects, encompassing a revision of herd health protocols and developing livestock sorting strategies to maximize carcass profitability. Upon returning to Australia, Matt held the position of Research Manager for the Meat Standards Australia program.
During 2010, Matt formed a new intensive ruminant Veterinary and Nutrition consulting company -- 'Bovine Dynamics.' Bovine Dynamics has further developed feedlot business operational benchmarking, oversees the largest feedlot performance database in Australia and has formed a joint venture 'Animal-Health-Data' with Quirindi Veterinary Group – a dynamic on-line Veterinary animal health monitoring and benchmarking program. Bovine Dynamics is passionate about carcass quality and yield-based assessment methodologies, value-based marketing, application opportunities for remote sensing technologies and animal welfare research.
ALFA is the peak representative body for the cattle feedlot industry. Its charter is to provide advocacy on issues that impact upon the sector, determine the allocation and prioritisation of grain fed beef levies and to deliver industry development activities to improve the standards and practices of the industry over time.
